I guess I would have to start with my birth way back in 1963 to Roger and Sara Gilbert in Rockford Illinois. I was their second child, joining a sister that is two years older than myself, and we were soon joined by a little sister born a little more than a year after me. Therefore, I am the best son they ever had and the best they could ever want to have! Ego, party of one! Seriously now, I think I had a very normal childhood, even with two sisters in the house.
My older sister Linda, now lives here in the Phoenix area. My little sister Lora, lives in the Rockford Illinois area and is a real estate agent. I followed her footsteps into real estate. My dad is retired and recently moved here to the Phoenix area. My mom was a retired guidance counselor and english teacher. She passed away 4/11/2007 after she lost her fight with breast cancer.
After my graduation from Harvard High School, I did what a lot of people do, went out and got a job. I worked for the parent company of True Value Hardware Stores in Harvard Illinois from 1982 until 1996. During that time, I got married, we had two children, and went through a divorce. From 1996 until 2001, I worked for Motorola in Harvard Illinois building, boxing and fixing cellular phones. From 2002 until 2007, I worked for Chaney Instrument Company in Lake Geneva Wisconsin. During this time, I decided I had seen enough winters for my lifetime and I needed to move somewhere warmer.
As I mentioned, I do have two children but I guess that they are really young adults now. YIKES!! Actually, they are really great kids, thanks to their mother, not me. We have a daughter, Justine, that graduated from Drake College in 2009, and a son, Brendan, that graduated from Columbia College in Chicago.
Since I moved here to the Phoenix area in the summer of 2007, I have found the area a very nice transition from Northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin where I grew up and lived all of my life until now. I still can't find a cow or a corn field anywhere around. Where are all the farms? I thought that it would look like southeastern Wisconsin in the summer. You know, cows, corn fields and cheeseheads! I have come to think of this area as my little slice of back home, but with endless sunshine, gorgeous mountain views and no snow to shovel!
